The 30th Circuit Court seeks attorneys interested in contracting with the Court to represent indigent parties facing contempt charges in certain Family Division matters, including Friend of the Court (FOC) de novo hearings following a bench warrant arraignment for non-payment of support, de novo show cause hearings for non-payment of support and show cause hearings for alleged denial of court-ordered parenting time, as well as show cause matters in Personal Protection Order (PPO) cases, and representation in Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) cases regarding show cause hearings for contempt only.
The contract is anticipated to be for the 2025 calendar year, with total annual compensation of $14,000 prorated at $1,166.67 per month for FOC and PPO matters, plus an additional flat rate of $250 to handle an entire contempt proceeding from initial consultation to final conclusion of an ERPO contempt hearing.
Attorney representation under the contract requires the physical appearance of an attorney for each hearing date and time; if coverage is needed due to the unavailability of the contract attorney, it is the responsibility of the attorney under the contract to arrange for suitable coverage. Currently, relevant FOC matters are heard on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with limited exceptions, and PPO matters are typically heard on Fridays from 11-12 pm. Extreme Risk Protection Order cases will be heard and scheduled by the assigned Judge and their staff at various times.
Any licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan is invited to apply. Those interested should email a letter of interest and resume to Deputy Court Administrator, Nicholas Hefty @ nhefty@ingham.org by December 23, 2024. Application materials should include the applicant’s P number and both personal and professional address.
